Course Information
Description Continued study of the instruments and control systems used in the process industries including terminology, process variables, symbology, control loops, and troubleshooting.
Prerequisites PTAC-1432
Learning Outcomes CSLOs:
1. Demonstrate ability to utilize the various instruments used in the process industry. (PSLO 1); measured by: embedded test questions, class discussion, demonstration, and hands on operation.

2. Apply advanced instrumentation principles and theories to process systems. (PSLO 1); measured by: embedded test questions, class discussion, demonstration and hands on operation.

3. Identify the various types of instruments used in the process industry. (PSLO 2); measured by: embedded test questions, class discussion, demonstration, using computer simulator programs and hands on operation.

4. Diagram the process control elements in a control loop. (PSLO 2); measured by: embedded test questions, class discussion, demonstration and hands on identification of control loop components.

5. Identify and adjust the various instruments used in the process industries. (PSLO 3); measured by: embedded test questions, class discussion, and demonstration using computer simulator programs and hands on operation of equipment.

6. Demonstrate safety procedures used during cleaning out, isolation and repair of process instruments. (PSLO 4); measured by: embedded test questions, class discussion, demonstration and hands on application.

7. Demonstrate ability to identify all main ideas, supporting details, and vocabulary in reading material. Demonstrates a full understanding of the reading. (PSLO 5); measured by: embedded test questions, pre / post-test.

Chapter Tests-25%, Quizzes/homework/labs-25% Final Exam-30% Attendance 20%
1. You will have 4 Major Tests and a Final Exam in this class. All tests and the exam are taken on blackboard during a specified time frame. If you miss the test and it has to be reopened, there will be an automatic deduction of 10 points. There are "NO RETAKES". If you miss "ONE" Test, your lowest current test score will be given for that test, ONLY if you missed the test due to an EXCUSED absence or a makeup test will be allowed if absence is excused per the absence policy. If you miss more than one test, you will receive a zero for each additional test you miss. If you are involved in Academic Dishonesty, you will receive a ZERO for that test. Taking the Final Exam is required to complete the course. Lab attendance and participation is required.
2. Homework assignments are to be submitted on blackboard and must be completed by due date, 20 PTS will be deducted if not submitted by due date. Homework more than a week late will not receive a grade higher than 50.
3. Cell Phone use is not permitted in the classroom or lab except during breaks. If a student is caught on their cell phone in class, the student will be asked to leave class and counted an unexcused absence for the day.
4. Students that are disruptive in class will be asked to leave and counted an unexcused absence for the day.
5. All grades will be posted on Blackboard.
6. The PTAC program has a dress code, failure to wear proper shoes and clothing will result in being sent out of class and counted absent for the day.
Course Policies
Instructor Policies I will not discuss your grades over the phone or by email. If you want to discuss your grades, you must come to my office, in person.
Attendance Policy Research has shown a cause and effect relationship between attendance and college success. Missing a day of lecture can possible cause you to drop a letter grade on tests.
1. Tardiness: Tardiness (more than 5mins), for lectures or labs.
2. Absences: NOTE: Excused absences (verifiable) are only allowed for, an illness that requires a hospital stay or a death in your immediate family, excluding aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. 5 absences=drop 1 letter grade, 7 absences=drop 2 letter grades, 9-absences=drop 3 letter grades, 11 absences=F

Academic Honesty Academic honesty is expected from all students, and dishonesty in any form will not be tolerated. Please consult the LSC-PA policies (Section IX, subsection A, in the Faculty Handbook) for consequences of academic dishonesty.
